Inspired by and dedicated to the latest music video ‘Unfair’ by Freddy Ruxpin and Kevin Lai.
I woke up to another quiet and pretty morning of one of the most memorable summers of my life tucked in a small and cozy corner of the world.
After the usual morning wandering in the nearby forest and laying in my rainbow swing under the sun, I went on to experience my digital world.
First post was the latest music video release by one of my favorite music producers and artists in Los Angeles, Freddy Ruxpin.
The video is titled UNFAIR.
Unfair takes you through a meditative drive in the city of Los Angeles from the sunset colors until the night falls with electronic music echoing the moods dreamt by the artists behind the piece.
If you are a LosAngelite, it will be easy to relate to and to instantly fall for. The scenes are from the streets of our city that only starts dreaming after the very dark of our initially mediocre nights. If you are not a LosAngelite, you will find her late night soul here that not many get to experience.
After our social gatherings and meet ups and parties have quitened down, we get on the ambitious streets of our city and remove her veils one by one.
We see the human in her when she is just a tired mother after a long struggling day. We find the human in us, the chasers of grand dreams now taking a choice less break.
We do it through our melancholic trance which could be about our artistic struggles, violence of our cities, lost loves, and the brutal unfairness behind all of it. Which is why Unfair, the music video, is a valuable piece of art.
It beautifully captures our journey to get to an authentic place of personal emotional struggles, realise our pain, and let it go with the help of our surreal city. She is complex, she is always in pain, but she finds a way for us to endure with the help of her majestic lights transformed to the contemplative horizon of our sea in the late nights.
‘Unfair’ is not about the obvious unfairness of our world. It is about how we meditate on it to get to a place of personal enlightenment with the help of our spaces, our glamorous cities or our small towns, and our human connections.
Watching ‘Unfair’ this morning took me back to my city and her nights I very well know. It was a reminder of what I have left behind and what I have found on these late night streets of my city.
Life is unfair, is a given, but my city has given me a space to exhibit my art. I didn’t find many to understand it, which is the starting point of the drive in the music video. But through my drive through the city and her transformation to her late night soul, I find my moments to contemplate on my rejected art slowly transforming into my personal acceptance, pride and comfort with it. The drive ends with a note from the universe telling me I am fine.
Only a true artist can take you through such journeys, which is why Freddy Ruxpin is our favorite artist from our city of angeles. Also a shout out to the talented co-creator of the video Kevin Lai (mylaistyle Instagram handle).
