Powerful Governments today are adopting ‘orderliness’ driven by the agenda of nationalistic protection. This goal of orderliness is directly conflicting with the existence itself of some groups- against the stateless who have been sent on roads of forced migration across the globe, against longtime residents who if not able to show their citizenship criteria compliance are to be deported, against tribal or specific populations forced to integrate with the mainland. The conflict is very apparent and global.
But at the same time, absence of order creates this ambiguity which is not low risk either considering the stability and security it could threaten if disorder slips in because of the ambiguity. (I want a world without borders, but is it practical in a way that all humans are safe and sound in that model? It is possible in a Yin Utopia I am convinced, I think, but we are far very far from that state anyway)
So now what? If we allow some ambiguity we might be opening doors to disorder and chaos. If we do not allow ambiguity, we will end up being unfair and cruel to many humans. So now what?
1. I personally think it needs a collective inquiry on what ‘Order’ means and presented to the populations by these Govts with its clear meaning and goals. Otherwise, it just comes across as oppression; that for humanity we cannot allow. If its just a blind rage for some fanatic idea of nationalism, then it obviously doesn’t have my vote but I am open to an intelligent and sensible narrative by these Govts that speaks above what’s coming across as solely their obsession to conquer and possess for their idea of nationalism.
2. Even if we get convinced by the intentions of these Govts for the best possible balance they can achieve in the given circumstances, it still doesn’t solve the problem of the stateless and violated populations. So a certain ambiguity seems like the only solution. We will need to define the tolerance and boundaries of that ambiguity. This will need very creative solutions requiring to see a future that is very different from the current one.
3. We shouldn’t forget intended order can also create disorder. This disorder can only be avoided by intelligent politics with a higher eye of and for the globe, and ethical journalism. Both of which we seem to be lacking currently. So the disorder is given. In fact imbalance of Order vs Ambiguity is what’s giving rise to this disorder.
