“Our ability to reach unity in diversity will be the beauty and the test of our civilisation.”
― Mahatma Gandhi

When we have each of the roses
Blooming in their own earth
We have a lasting garden that
Sings a song of all other-worlds
Not visible here but that carry
Equally in their unique hands
The fragrance of human spark
That is the boat of all our seas

When we have any of the roses
Ripped off from their earth
To decorate a golden altar
Built for the sale of a prayer
Not the sacredness of it
We have an empty desert
That thinks it is a garden
Of its one earth, its own color
That thinks it still has a God

When I had written Beautiful Ornament called Diversity, my intention was to point out at the game many platforms and organizations are playing to just ‘show’ an image of diversity and inclusion without truly understanding and absorbing it.

With #DiversityForReal coined by and also refered to in many writing pieces by Shringi Kumari, my intention is to first take the opportunity of celebrating occasions and forums that are really promoting and adopting authentic initiatives for diversity and inclusion, and then also to reflect upon that, with the lack of this authenticity and real work, what is the magnitude of our losses.

When we say we want to be completely integral and inclusive, all culture accepting and understanding, let’s think about what that really means in our day to day and how it translates to real human work. As writers, we have a big role and responsibility for this one.

Would love to hear from Medium writers and poets through their stories, essays and poems what is their view on #DiversityForReal topic. Please use the tag when you share something related in your stories so we all get to read and don’t miss anything. Just looking to see all perspectives here on current status and how can we improve.

Tagging a few writers here (please everyone is invited to chew on the prompt). Please engage if the topic has been on your mind or something that you have been wanting to share about. Thanks:)
